Acceptance offers being mailed this week Friday, April 11, 2003
Today the staff in the Registrar's Office intend to complete the herculean task that was begun at the first of the week -- the assembling and mailing 13,500 packages with offers of admission to applicants from secondary schools.
That's 6,000 more than last year.
This being the year of the double cohort of high school graduates, the University of Windsor has prepared for a much larger first year class of about 4,500 students this September. About 3,350 will be directly out of high schools.
The percentage of applicants receiving offers of admission in the first round is about the same as last year. The offers are based on the applicants high school grades so far. Those receiving offers are being told that they must maintain their grades or the offer could be rescinded. Acceptance grades range from a 70 average to 80 for Co-op Engineering and 86 for Operations Research, a specialized program in Mathematics and Statistics.
The applicants are also being e-mailed with acceptance offers and a note to say that a full package of information is in the mail. Conditional scholarship offers are also being made to 8,000 of the applicants. With the new Student Information System, applicants will be able to accept the university's offer and register on-line after May 1, apply for awards or financial aid, and even download an application for parking.
Administrative Dean Brian Mazer says that the university has planned to accept some students this summer after their final grades are available. So, students who have not received admissions offers this month may still be accepted in a later round.
