Midnight Mass - Christmas Eve
Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, SW1P 3PA
To set the perfect spiritual mood for Christmas, why not join in midnight mass in the magnificent setting of Westminster Abbey? The church fills out nicely for the Christmas Eve services, (last year attracted over 2000 worshippers) and a full abbey with voices raised is a stirring event. Hundreds of Britain's most famous figures are buried in Westminster, which is also the seat of the Coronation and the final resting place of scores of English Kings. Vast and hauntingly beautiful, the Abbey's massive stone columns and marble floors fairly resonate with the power and history of the Christian religious tradition.
These atmospheric annual services are simple celebrations of Christmas's religious message. The awe-inspiring surroundings of the Abbey provide the perfect backdrop for a classical evening of lessons and carols on Christmas Eve from 16:00. The First Eucharist will be sung at 23:30.
