6月16日GRE考场回忆 阅读惊现94年老题

2012年6月16日进行了新GRE考试,据一位在北京王府学校考场的考生回忆,阅读理解居然惊现1994年的老题。以下是这位同学的考场回忆:
  作文:
  Issue:
  140. Some people believe that universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study. Others believe that universities should not force students to take any courses other than those that will help prepare them for jobs in their chosen fields.
Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented.
  该题是很好写的一道高频题目,题库中有好几道类似题目。我的开头段大致是这样写的:
From Confucius to a president of modern university, every educators face the dilemma that whether they should provide their students a focused, bread-earning oriented professional course or should give them a more general, more comprehensive curriculum which is not closely bounded by their major. On the one hand, a focused curriculum can improve student's working expertise more effectively, thus can help students become more competitive in the job market, this becomes critical in the background of high unemployment. On the other hand, a more general, more comprehensive curriculum can endow students a solid foundation for their life long study, help them become more versatile in the job market, and more independent thinker in their daily life. Considering all the pros and cons, I believe universities should require students to take a variety of curriculum out their specific field.
Reason1: job market is changing from time to time, no one can assure he or she can have a permanent life-long job, and many people even do not know what field is most suitable for them.
Reason2: family responsibility is not just earning bread. Raising child, marital life, social communication all require knowledge outside one's specific field.
Reason3: university should not only prepare student to be efficient laborer, but also accountable citizen.
  Argument:
  41. The following appeared in a health newsletter.
"A ten-year nationwide study of the effectiveness of wearing a helmet while bicycling indicates that ten years ago, approximately 35 percent of all bicyclists reported wearing helmets, whereas today that number is nearly 80 percent. Another study, however, suggests that during the same ten-year period, the number of bicycle-related accidents has increased 200 percent. These results demonstrate that bicyclists feel safer because they are wearing helmets, and they take more risks as a result. Thus, to reduce the number of serious injuries from bicycle accidents, the government should concentrate more on educating people about bicycle safety and less on encouraging or requiring bicyclists to wear helmets."
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.
  我的思路大致这样:
assumption1: total number of bicyclists has not increased sharply during the 10 year period.
Assumption2: bicyclists are culprits to blame in most accidents they involved.
Assuption3: severe injuries in the accidents has raised proportionally with the accident number.
  进入正题。笔者非常幸运,遇到3 个语文sections.
