ONE Australian soldier is dead and two injured after a bomb attack in Afghanistan, the Australian Defence Force has confirmed.
The soldier from the Special Operations Task Group was on foot in the Oruzgan province conducting on offensive operation against the Taliban when he was killed in a blast.
He is the seventh Australian to be killed in action in Afghanistan. More than 50 Australian soldiers have been injured.
Vice Chief of the Defence Force Lieutenant General David Hurley said he could not release further details as the operation was still ongoing.
“Today our nation mourns the loss of a fine soldier,” he said.
“On behalf of the men and women of the Australian Defence Force, I offer my deepest sympathy to his family and to his friends.”
Among the Coalition allies, 96 Canadians and 125 British soldiers have been killed in action. As of November 25, there were 1013 Coalition deaths.
