On 8 February 2010 theAustralian Government announced a number of changes to its skilled migrationprogram. These changes included the withdrawal of the Migration
Occupations in Demand List(MODL) and the introduction of a new Skilled Occupation List (SOL) from 1 July 2010.
The Department ofImmigration and Citizenship (DIAC) is reminding students whoheld an eligible visa on 8 February 2010 that time isrunning out to apply for transitional arrangements.
These arrangements wereoffered by the government to people who held an eligible student visa on 8February 2010. The opportunity to apply for the temporary Skilled Graduate (subclass485) visa using the SOL in effect at the time will close at the end of 2012. The subclass485 visa allows eligible students to stay in Australia for 18 months to work orstudy.
The opportunity for students to take up thesearrangements ends on 31 December 2012.
