Applications submitted by 10/02/15will be assessed against the October 2014 Occupation List. While the number of open occupationshas decreased, there is a slight variation in the skill type and industrysector of the occupations that are currently in demand. By way of example: · The status of the followingoccupations changed to closed: All medical specialists (except generalpractitioners); surveyors; engineers; complimentary health therapists andoptometrists. · The status of the followingoccupations changed to open: mechanics; welfare workers, building associatesand plumbers. · The open status of the followingoccupations remains unchanged: child care centre managers, generalpractitioners; retail pharmacist; early childhood teachers; architects; medicalimaging; registered nurses; panel beaters and psychologists. A comparison of occupations identifiedas ‘in demand’ in October 2014 compared to February 2015 is attached. The ACT190 nomination guidelines have also been updated, effective 10/02/15, withformatting changes only. In summary, the ACT Skilled MigrationProgram will give preference to Canberra residents, or their immediate familyliving overseas who can demonstrate good employment prospects. Forexample:· Canberra residents / graduates mayapply for ACT nomination if they are employed in a skilled occupationregardless of whether the occupation is open or closed. Interstategraduates are required to be working in Canberra in their nominated occupationfor at least 6 months before they can apply. · Overseas applicants may only applyfor ACT nomination if their occupation is open and they can demonstrateemployability. If their occupation is closed, they must either have a job offeror have immediate family members living in Canberra and demonstratedemployability.
