Subject: [UAISN] IMPORTANT: International Student 23.5% Tuition Increase
Proposal
*** Come to the International Centre meeting on Wednesday November 24th at 7
PM to express your concerns about the proposed increase ***
Hello everyone,
As most of you should be aware by now, the university's administration is
considering increasing international student tuition by 23.5%. This increase
would take effect in the next school year and all international students would
be subject to it. Unlike other instances, the administration is not planning
to "grandfather" students, consequently even students who have been previously
enrolled in the university (students who have taken one or more years) will
have to pay the tuition increase next year.
In order to reconsider the proposal, the administration wants proof that this
tuition increase would create hardships for international students. They want
data, statistics or evidence because argumentation will not suffice for them.
This is one of the most important reasons why we need you and your
international student friends to come out and express your concerns about the
proposed tuition increase. There are several ways for you to do this:
1.. Jordan Blatz, the Students' Union President, will be holding a meeting
at the International Centre on Wednesday November 24th at 7 PM. This meeting
is specially important as the amount of interest and concern from
international students could be used as evidence for the administration.
As well, Jordan Blatz will be meeting with the administration on November
25th to discuss the tuition increase. Thus this meeting could help prepare him
to represent our interests better. Please come out and express your concern
and don't forget to pass the word around and talk about this issue amongst
your friends. The more people that go, the stronger the prescence we can have.
2.. Write the pro-vost directly at [email protected] and tell him about
your concerns and how the proposed increase would create hardships for you.
Don't forget to CC: (send a copy) Jordan Blatz, his email address is:
[email protected].
Hope to see you at the meeting on the 24th,
