Body identified as Wei Amanda Zhao
VANCOUVER (CP) -- Police identified a body Wednesday as that of missing Chinese student Wei Amanda Zhao.
Zhao, 21, disappeared Oct. 9 after leaving her suburban Burnaby apartment to walk to a grocery store.
Two hikers found the body of a woman on the weekend near Stave Lake.
An autopsy revealed she had been murdered, but police have not yet released the cause of death.
The Chinese consulate was asked to contact Zhao's parents in Beijing with an update, and a coroner called her school to ask questions about Zhao.
Her boyfriend initially called police with a missing person's report but an apparent communications mixup delayed a public alert about the case.
Zhao's death is the latest in a number of attacks on young Asian women in the Vancouver area dating back to May |
