The University of Queensland has advanced two places to be named 41st in the world in the UK's Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings, released today.*

UQ has been named one of the top 50 universities in the world for the fifth year in a row in the five years since the survey was established.

UQ is the only Queensland university, and one of only a handful of Australian universities, appearing in the top 50 list.

At last count, UNESCO recognised more than 9000 universities in the world, so the ranking places UQ among the top one percent of international universities.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield said it was a credit to the achievements of UQ staff, students and global networks of alumni and partners that UQ consistently ranked in the top band of the world's universities.

"As a genuinely international institution, UQ operates within an environment of thousands of universities, so being in the top 50 is significant," he said.

“On the eve of our centenary in 2010, UQ is continuing to make advances in discovery and learning, and meaningful contributions to our state, national and international communities.”

UQ continues to perform well across a range of quality indicators.

It is among Australia's top research universities and has won more national teaching awards than any other Australian university.

The 2008 Academic Ranking of World Universities undertaken by the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranked UQ as the top university in Queensland and one of the top nationally.

UQ this year again received a number of five star ratings as one of Australia's best research universities in the 2010 edition of The Good Universities Guide to Australian universities.

UQ Business School's MBA program was recently again awarded five stars – the highest possible – by the Graduate Management Association of Australia (GMAA).

For details about applying to study at UQ via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre, visit www.uq.edu.au/study/qtac or call the UQ Admissions Office telephone 07 3365 2503.

People considering postgraduate study at UQ in 2010 are invited to attend the Postgraduate Advice Night on October 14 at Brisbane Customs House from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. Details: http://www.youruq.com/postgrad/postgraduate-advice-night/

* Note: Top 200 rankings will be published in print today October 8, 2009 in Times Higher Education and online at 00:01 GMT on October 9 at www.topuniversities.com.

UQ今年有进步,庆祝一下~~
其实吧 这更意味着 我们要交更多的学费。。。
Just had a look the ranking report, not a very good one. I can't believe Stanford is only in 16th (My Dream Uni)... And too many UK Universities... But the report is still meaningful...
