Students’ basic living costs are around £175 per week in term time inclusive of rent, food, heating travel, clothes, books and personal items. The additional costs of socialising will vary for different individuals. The cost of housing rent will vary subject to the area of London you live in. Although you may find cheaper accommodation on the outskirts of London, you should note that this may be offset by greater daily travel costs.
In total, for the full year, a single student will need about £10,000 to meet the basic expenses of living in London (excluding tuition fees). A couple will need about £16,000 with at least an extra £3,000 per year for each child. The average rent in the University hall of residence or a room in a privately rented house/flat is about £90- £100 per week.
