Current penalties for speeding
- Less than 13 kilometres per hour (km/h) over the speed limit:
A$133 + one demerit point. - At least 13 km/h but not more than 20 km/h over the speed limit:
A$200 + three demerit points. - More than 20 km/h but not more than 30 km/h over the speed limit:
A$333 + four demerit points. - More than 30 km/h but not more than 40 km/h over the speed limit:
A$466 + six demerit points. - More than 40 km/h over the speed limit:
A$933 + eight demerit points and six month suspension. Double demerit points Doubledemerit points apply in Queensland to drivers and motorbike riders whocommit more than one of the following offences within a 12 month period:

Theadditional demerit points apply to any subsequent offence committedwithin 12 months of a previous offence. Where a driver/rider commitsmore than one of these offences within a 12 month period, they willaccumulate double the amount of demerit points on their traffic historyfor the subsequent offence. The number of demerit points that willapply will be dependent upon the subsequent offence Theadditional demerit point penalty is activated if a person receives asubsequent offence for speeding more than 20 km/h within 12 months ofthe first offence. The additional points are applied in line with thesecond offence.
