MPhil and PhD
These degrees are awarded in either Electronics or Music Technology following the successful submission of a thesis detailing a research project. The normal period of study is two years for an MPhil degree and three years for a PhD degree. Research Students are assigned a supervisor – a member of academic staff and will also become a member of one of the Department’s Research Groups. Research Students are also given the opportunity to develop both oral and written communications skills, which are essential in a modern engineering environment.
MSc in Electronics by Research
This one-year degree programme provides an introduction to scientific research. Students undertake a research project in one of the Department's research areas, closely supervised on a one-to-one basis with a member of academic staff. The project work lasts approximately eight months, and students may also attend advanced taught courses in Electronics and transferable skills. The degree of MSc is awarded for satisfactory completion of a dissertation based on the research work.
