In the long history, the human race has been fascinated by animals. In some extreme cases, animals may attack or even kill people, but in most cases, they are loyal and submissive to human beings. It seems certain that animals are to us what air is to the earth. An interesting topic is whether people can have a deeper understanding of human nature by studying animals. My answer to this question is “why not”.
Studying animals helps people to learn to cooperate. It can be seen clearly in the animal kingdom that many animals set a perfect example to human beings about what the cooperation is. Bees and ants are all good case in point. Cooperation, in a sense, reflects the kindness and goodness. Undeniably, they are human nature.
In addition, by studying animals, people can foster the sense of competition. An unchangeable jungle principle in the world is “survival of the fittest”. Many animals often compete for survival and only the fittest get advanced. It seems to be fierce, but can’t we obtain the enlightening instruction that competition brings about progress? Yet the cruelty resulted from competition cannot be ignored. This cruelty is also human nature.
Finally, by studying animals, we can define friends and enemies and distinguish right from wrong, which offers us a chance to balance human nature. From this perspective, no better example can be outlined than dogs and dolphins. They are forever loyal to friends and never let their enemies go. We human beings can learn from them, behave ourselves and balance the goodness and badness.
“Live and let live” should always be our motto. We are always proud of being so-called advanced animals and speaking of other animals with contempt. However, how many of us can honestly admit animals have nothing to do with us and we can learn nothing from animals?
