Personal statement
Currently a student of environment engineering at nanjing university of sci. and tech.I am scheduled to graduate with a bachelor degree in June 2004.after serious consideration I decide to purse my advanced study in your esteemed university. I believe your postgraduate program would offer me the bet opportunity for my professional growth.
Perhaps the most important influence that has shaped the person I am today is my upbringing in a traditional family---oriented Chinese culture. My parents’ admirable characters such as honesty, diligence, and kind-heartedness had a strong influence upon the formation of my life values. I always push myself to be the best that I can be in all aspects of my life. I saw early the door and opportunities that a good education can open up. Thus, I particularly tried hard to do well in school.
After graduated from shishi senior high school, which is very famous and the oldest school all over the world .I was admitted to Nanjing University of sci. &tech...After successful performance in the competitive national college entrance examination. Since I entered into the university, I have studied diligently and conscientiously. With that, I have acquired a solid background in chemistry; mathematics and physics. I also take many professional courses such as analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, organic catalysis, Inorganic Chemistry, instrumental analysis, then I took water and waste water management，air pollution control, solid waste management Although I have never majored in the study of any particular language, my English proficiency has been improved to a point where it is comparable to that of most English majors in Chinese universities, as demonstrated by my high grade in toefl.my toefl score is 630.i could not mention that I got 三等scholarship in my fourth semester.
Education at our University emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience. I started to enjoy substantial lab experience in my second year. Because we have Physical Chemistry Experiment, organic chemistry experiment Inorganic Chemistry Experiments courses. I not only enjoyed the lab experimentation thoroughly but also learned to think and solve problems independently. At the beginning of my third year in the university. we went to nanjing化工公司氮肥厂to work with the workers there for one week. During these days I bequeathed me expertise in a variety of research methods and research facilities.
I did not allow my heavy load of study to deter me from taking part in extracurricular activities.军训时期I was in charge of 副排长who helped 排长conduct classmates and deal with many affairs .so I 获得军训先进个人称号as a member of 青年志愿者协会，I have always been most obliging whenever anyone comes to me for help, which has won me lots of friends. Such involvement in the student affairs has tempered my skills in leadership, organization and communication. I also got the honors of 社会活动积极分子 in my fourth semester.
Last year, Sars broke out in a large scale. The using of disinfection and a large number of poisonous solid are bad for the environment .it made me firm my conviction of going on studying about solving the environmental problems. Consider that my study goal should be aimed at Water and waste water management. Solid waste management. Air pollution control or some related areas. Although I am now focusing my academic interests on environment engineering, you may find that I may be more suitable for other majors. If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could advise me accordingly.
I believe I have acquired the necessary theoretical framework and practical experience for advanced studies. Equipped with the ability to teach myself and conduct independent research, I will be able to attain competence quickly in areas that I may at first know very little about. I never work just to finish an assignment, but instead I always try conscientiously to learn as much as possible and sharpen my expertise through the work I do.
After carefully comparing the strengths of many universities, I find Xxx University particularly suited for my purpose. Currently, China still lags significantly behind Western countries in environment engineering. I hope that, with one year of graduate studies under your seasoned guidance, I will be able to return to my motherland and help bring environment engineering in my country to international standards.
