In the past, knowledge was stored in books; nowadays, knowledge is stored in the Internet. Do advantages outweigh disadvantages?
Nowadays, people can have access to knowledge not only through books but also from the Internet. A number of people believe there are more benefits than drawbacks of reserving knowledge on the Internet and I could not agree more.
One of people's concerns is that there is amounts of information on the Internet and without the supervision of related departments, some people, especially the teenager may be misguided by misleading information. For example, there are so many kinds of novels on the Internet that it is difficult to distinguish which one is proper for a minor to read.
On the other hand, one obvious merit is that it has become more convenient for people to acquire knowledge. A range of ways can be employed to obtain knowledge, such as using an iPad, smart phone or a kindle. Apart from the various kinds of manners of reading, now people can gain knowledge wherever they want, which means instead of holding a book and reading quietly in a study, people can even read on a bus or subway only with their smart phones.
Another more meaningful advantage is that people in poverty can have easy access to knowledge if the knowledge is available on the Internet. As we know, compared with books, the e-books are more affordable and plenty of them are even free. Consequently, it allows more people to receive education contributing to social equality in some extent.
All in all, as I see it, the merits clearly outweigh the potential demerit because as long as there is supervision, the concern mentioned above will not be a problem anymore and I am convinced that sound supervision is on the way.

In the current era, knowledge can be preserved on the Internet. Some people may argue that there exist more drawbacks when books are substituted by the Internet in terms of storing knowledge, but I cannot agree with this opinion.
Admittedly, users may be confused about knowledge on the Internet. Most authors hold a serious attitude towards publishing a book and will be responsible for what they write in their books. However, since the Internet is open to everyone, many amateurs pretend to be masters in some domains and deliberately spread incorrect information, which brings difficulties to beginners since they may not tell the different between right and wrong. Nevertheless, there still exist more merits if information is preserved on the Internet.
To begin with, storing knowledge on the Internet may avoid knowledge loss to some degree. It is true that books can contain knowledge, but most books will deteriorate with age and cannot be read anymore after decades of years. However, if knowledge is stored on the Internet, as long as computers are not damaged, knowledge can still be obtained from hard drives after a long time. Thus, Internet can store knowledge for a longer time while books are limited by characteristics of paper.
In addition, users may save a lot of time when they search information on the Internet. In the past, when people intended to find a book they want, they had to go to a library and wasted some time on finding books on the shelf. By contrast, with search engines, users can acquire knowledge in a short time by typing in some key words in a database. There is no need for people to spend time on commuting and they can just sit in front of a computer and gain what they need quickly.
To sum up, the merits of storing knowledge on the Internet may overshadow the detriments caused, considering that computers can preserve knowledge for a longer time and users can find information they need efficiently.
Internet technology is, to a great extent, updating all aspects of people's life especially means of information storage. Hence, over the public there is the controversy whether storing knowledge by means based-on Internet is superior to traditional printed books.
Primarily, the latest Internet technology makes it possible that a great deal of information can be stored by a tiny memory card. Instead, people had to build quite a few libraries and print millions of books in the past. The function of mass storage is what traditional books can never achieve. An instance in point is that people in recent years can put a small e-book reader in their pockets going everywhere they want, in which numerous books are available.
Additionally, due to the advancement of related technology, currently knowledge can be preserved by *** means in forms of videos, audios, pictures and words. Admittedly, videos and audios can easily leave people more vivid impression, consequently enhancing people's learning efficiency. By contrast, what paper books can store is only words and pictures, which are relatively monotonous and boring. This can perfectly explain why *** classrooms are rather prevalent in schools contemporarily.
Ultimately, people can readily access information saved online through some search engines. What people need to do is type some key words and wait for less than a second. Nevertheless, looking for a book in a large-scale library is not an easy job. Furthermore, sometimes if someone likes to borrow a book from a library located in other cities, he needs to make a couple of phone calls and wait for a few weeks.
Briefly, dissemination of knowledge is an essential step of civilization, and undoubtedly Internet technology contributes substantially to it. Printed books are doomed to be replaced by high-tech products, written in history sooner or later.
Today we all believe that knowledge is just at the tip of our fingers because all knowledge seems to be have been stored electronically and is easilyaccessible on the Internet. There have been mixed responses to this development, and personally I think more and more people will rely on the Internet for knowledge though the printed books will never completely disappear.
(2) At the tip of fingers
(3) Electronically
(4) Accessible
(5) Mixed responses
Storing knowledge in the Internet has obvious advantages. Owing to itsvirtually unlimited capacity, the Internet can store all knowledge in the world. This makes it quite unnecessary for us to spend that much money constructing thebrick-and-mortar libraries. Then as long as we have Internet connection, we can find whatever we desire to know no matter where we are. So, rather than carrying heavy books on American culture with me, I can sit at a coffee table and with a few simple keyboard clicks, I can have immediate access to any book in the world on that topic. What is more, if I would like to share some important knowledge with my friend, again a few simple clicks would do, but were the knowledge stored in the book form, then I would probably have to find time to go to the post-office and send the book to him/her, which is far more time-consuming and less efficient.
(3)Virtually (=nearly; actually; almost)
(4)Capacity
(6)Time-consuming
(7)Efficient
Keeping knowledge in the Internet, however, will make us excessively dependent on electronic devices. Simply put, in case of power-off or computer break-down, we will be thrown into a terribly helpless situation. But this is not a problem for people who learn things from books. Additionally, many people simply prefer reading real books for knowledge to online sources, because they believe books are more reliable and they find themselves emotionally and intellectually more attached to knowledge in books.
(2)Excessively 过分地
(3)Be dependent on…
(4)Prefer …to…
(5)Attached
My conclusion, then, is that knowledge will increasingly find its way to the Internet and it will make knowledge storage more economical and convenient, yet books will never vanish because there are always people who would like toembrace knowledge in printed form.
(2)Find its way to… 走进……
(3)Economical 节约的
(4)Vanish 消失
(5)Embrace
