How to apply for a new temporary resident visa - applicants in CanadaIf you are currently a temporary resident in Canada with valid status (ie: valid study or work permit) and want to apply for a new temporary resident visa to return to Canada before you leave, you can do so with our Case Processing Pilot office in Ottawa (CPP-O), an extension of CIC’s overseas network.
You can apply in Canada if you are:

A legally admitted temporary resident (student or temporary foreign worker only) in Canada with a Canadian residential address,

your current temporary resident status is still valid, and your existing counterfoil is expired and/or was valid for only one entry, and

you require a new temporary resident visa to return to Canada in the near future.If this does not apply to you, see our general instructions on How to Apply.
If this does apply to you:

Obtain a temporary resident visa application.

Read the instructions carefully.

Complete the application forms and attach the necessary documents.

Pay the fee and get the necessary receipt.

In addition, please note:

If you plan to visit Canada multiple times in the near future (for example on business or to visit family), you should consider applying for a multiple entry temporary resident visa.

All applicants must complete and sign their own individual form, including persons travelling as a family. Applicants who are under the age of 18 years must have their form signed by a parent or guardian.

The fee for processing your form is not refundable. Please note that submitting a completed application and necessary supporting documents does not guarantee that you will receive a visa.3. If you do not provide all the requested information or documents, your application may be delayed.
Each individual applicant must submit a completed temporary resident visa application form.
All required documents must be included with your application:

Two recent passport photographs of each family member are required. Make sure these photographs meet the requirements.

Enclose proof of payment of the application fee. Your fee will not be refunded, even if your application is not accepted.

CPP-O only accepts payment online or through a financial institution in Canada.

Note that CPP-O will not take any other forms of payment, including money orders, certified cheques, bank drafts, etc.

Processing fees are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the application.Notice: Financial institutions and credit card companies may require up to five days before they can validate your payment. Our office will not be able to process an application before the payment has been validated. You may wish to pay your application fees a few days before you send the complete application in order to speed up the processing of your application.
5. Submit the application forms and necessary documentsWhen you have completed the application forms:

make sure you sign and date them, and

You should purchase two prepaid 24 x 32 cm Xpresspost - National envelopes at any Canada Post retail outlet.

Enclose one envelope in the other envelope. This second envelope will be used to return your passport and other applicable documents to you. Add the documents you wish to send to us in support of your application.

Complete the mailing label on the return envelope showing your full mailing address in the "Deliver To" field and to the following Post Office box address (below) in the "Return Address" field.

Make a note of the tracking number for each envelope.

If you choose not to submit a second prepaid Xpresspost envelope, your passport will be returned by regular mail. Please note that our office does not take any responsibility for items lost in the mail.

If you choose to use another courier, please note that we will return your passport through regular mail.

You cannot apply at this office if your residential address is not in Canada.

Processing

In order to ensure the timely processing of your application:

Pay your fees a few days before you mail your application, as financial institutions and credit card companies may require up to five business days before they validate your payment.

Apply at least 2 months in advance of your planned departure from Canada in order to avoid disappointment.

Complete the new 2D barcode forms on line. Hand filled applications submitted to our office will result in delays and longer processing time (for more information, please see 2D barcode page).

Applications will be processed in the order they are received.

Processingtimes have not yet been established. Updates will be posted on the CIC site when available.One of more of the following factors could delay the processing of your application:

incomplete applications;

medical exam required;

background or security checks required;

criminal record;

interview required;

verification of documents needed; or

other factors that complicate your case.
