医生们被告知应警惕一种名叫副肠孤病毒(parechovirus）新病毒，婴儿很容易感染这种病毒，而且此病毒从未在澳洲出现过。

约有20名宝宝被确诊感染了肠道和呼吸道病毒，这种病毒通常只会引起发烧、皮疹和腹泻。但严重的话，还会导致肝炎或乙型脑炎。

新州卫生部称，目前已获知有20名出生16周以下的婴儿感染了副肠孤病毒。第一批这类病例是在10几年前被发现的，在美国、日本和欧洲都曾爆发过。

新州卫生部的Vicky Sheppeard医生提醒广大家长，应警惕类似症状，“被感染的孩子情况很很快恶化。”
