标题: HOLIDAY SAFETY ALERT
海外学生的安全问题似乎是近期报纸杂志讨论的焦点之一。Are You Traveling for the Holidays? HERE ARE SOME VALUABLE SAFETY TIPS from my school.
As we prepare for the Holiday break you MUST include security awareness as part of your plans. Here is some valuable Safety Advice that will help in having an enjoyable and safe holiday season.
1. Ensure that your office door/dorm room is locked.
2. If you have duplicated your keys, please make sure they are all accounted
for.
3. Valuable items such as laptops or jewelry should be secured by placing them in locked cabinets or securing them with high security cables.
4. If possible, you should take these items with you or give them to a trusted friend to secure them in your absence.
5. Avoid giving detailed information about your travel plans or time away from your office or living quarters via voice mail and automatic e-mail responses.
6. Immediately upon your return, take an inventory of your property, especially your valuables.
7. Be alert to pick pocketing attempts especially in crowded conditions
8. Use Gear Guards (available free from Public Safety) to secure your backpack or any item where dual zipper closers are used
9. Immediately report missing property to the Department Of Public Safety.

BE SAFETY SMART
1. Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times.
2. Travel on populated, well lit streets. If possible travel with a friend.
3. If taking the subway, plan your trip ahead of time. Know the safest route to your destination.
4. Carry only the amount of cash necessary to make the purchases of the day.
Divide your money amongst your pockets, purse and wallet.
5. Carry your purse close to your body. Carry your wallet in the breast pocket of your jacket or in your side pants pocket.
6. When dining, keep your pocketbook on your lap.
7. Record your credit card numbers. Carry only the one needed for that day.
8. When shopping on-line look for the closed lock in the lower right corner and https: in the address line of the URL.
9. Shop only with a company you know and trust. Read the “Privacy Statement”.
10. Limit the number of packages you carry so one hand is always free.
11. Be wary of the con artist. “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is”.
12. If a robber confronts you, comply with his/her demands unless your safety
is in danger. Your property can be replaced; you cannot be.
13. If you plan to travel leave your laptop with a friend or secure it in a
locked cabinet or take it with you.
14. Use Gear Guards to secure your backpacks while traveling.
15. If you are the victim of any crime, call 911 or Department of Public
Safety.
REMEMBER !!!
SECURITY IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY
Wish you a happy holiday!
